We think the government’s initiative to update the ‘National Rural Development Award Policy-2012’ will encourage the people to work harder in order to develop the country’s rural areas.

A story headlined “Move to update policy on rural development” published in this newspaper on Saturday says the fresh policy will come into effect as soon as possible as a draft of the ‘National Rural Development Award Policy-2021’ has already been prepared by the ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives.

With a view to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals and alleviating poverty, the government is formulating different plans and boosting up previous ones to strengthen local government bodies to ensure transparency, accountability and raising people’s participation in every development step.

When individuals and their

work are valued, their

productivity rises

Therefore, we think to keep people working in rural areas, it is important to make them feel like they are an integral part of country’s ongoing development works to take urban facilities including health services, education, information and communication technology (ICT), recreation centers and other public services at the doorsteps of rural people.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government is taking Bangladesh to the trajectory of development through reducing poverty as it has  the goals to develop people’s lifestyle, free them from poverty and make the country economically self-reliant.

Therefore, when individuals and their work are valued, their satisfaction and productivity rises. We think these working people could bring changes in the socio economic life of the rural people as per the roadmap given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build Bangabandhu’s ‘Sonar Bangla’.
