A mother has been accused of killing her one-year-old daughter by throwing her in a pond in Rajbari. Police have arrested mother Hanufa Begum Sumi (30) in the incident.
The arrested Hanufa Begum is the daughter of Habibur Rahman of Kalicharanpur area of Rajbari Sadar upazila. Rajbari Sadar Police Station OC Swapan Kumar Majumder confirmed the information on Thursday.
He said the child's father Alamgir Hossain, 39, had filed a case against his wife on Wednesday. After that Sumi was arrested by the police.
It is learned that Hanufa Begum got married to Alamgir Hossain of Bartha village in Sadar upazila two years ago. After marriage, there were marital problems between husband and wife.
Last Tuesday afternoon, Hanufa Begum went to her father's house in Muraripur village with her one-year-old daughter.
After that, the locals became suspicious when she ran away leaving her daughter in a pond. They went to the pond and rescued the dead child.
OC Swapan Kumar Majumder said police had visited the spot. The mother was arrested and sent to court on Wednesday afternoon, the police official said.
