Mother, daughters come under acid attack

Miscreants threw acid on a mother and her two daughters at Raipur upazila in Lakshmipur on Monday while they were sleeping on the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The window of the house was broken and acid was thrown at them in Keroa village under the upazila.  As a result, mother Anwara Begum and her two daughters Sumaiya Akhter, 27, and Sumi Akhter, 18, were burnt. The youngest daughter Sumi Akhter was affected most.

People from the area came to their rescue and admitted them to Raipur Upazila Health Complex.  At present, they are undergoing treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital, said Tota Mia, officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station.

A case has been filed with Raipur police station in this regard. Four days after the incident, no arrests have been made so far.

Police are continuing their operation to nab those involved in the incident said Tota Mia.
