We recall the most brutal assassination in our history and renew the pledge to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty as the month of mourning begins today (Sunday).

The killing of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15, 1975 is the ugliest chapter of the nation’s history. The month of August is also black marked with another conspiracy of assassination. We can never forget the heinous attempt of killing Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina through grenade attacks on August 21 in 2004.

When a favourable situation was being created in the war-torn Bangladesh after independence, the assassination of August 15 was perpetrated. The killers not only assassinated Bangabandhu and his family members but also the spirit of the Great Liberation War of the Bangalee nation, progress, prosperity and the bright future.

We should devote ourselves for the

betterment of the country and thwart

anti-state conspiracies unitedly

It has been noticed that the anti-liberation and communal forces along with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami get active across the country in every August. Hence, we have to remain alert against the communal forces so that they  cannot create any unwanted situation in the country. The pro-liberation forces must devote themselves for the betterment of the country and thwart anti-state conspiracies unitedly.

We know who were behind the killing of Bangabandhu and the heinous attempt of killing Sheikh Hasina through grenade attacks. Despite the August 15 tragedy and attempt of killing Sheikh Hasina, the ruling Awami League wants to keep ties with different political parties in the greater interest of democracy and good governance.

We believe there would be no compromise with the descendants of the anti- liberation forces as they are out to hatch a conspiracy to grab the state power instead of standing beside the people during the coronavirus pandemic. Besides, we think the ruling Awami League alongside pro-liberation forces will observe the day with solemnity, maintaining the social distancing in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
