The month-longDhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2023,the largest annual commercial and trade event of the country, began on Sundayat its permanent venue at Purbachalin the outskirt of the capital city.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair which is taking place for the second time at its permanent venue.
Earlier in the afternoon on SundayCommerce Minister TipuMunshi held the pre-fair press conference jointly organised by the Commerce Ministry and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) at the Friendship Exhibition Centre. The DITF 2022 drew a spot export order of Tk 200 crore although this national fair is not organized with the aim to earn profit.
The DITF plays an important role in expansion and promotion of both local and foreign trade.So,one of the main goals of the fair is set to showcase local products before the international market as a good number of pavilions of foreign goods take place and many foreign visitors gather in the fair every year.
This year’s fair offering 50 percent discount if anyone buys tickets online while there will be vehicle parking facility for some 1,000 cars.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Bangladeshjointly organize the Dhaka International Trade Fair which earlier used to take place at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka, west side of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
This event usually creates opportunity for the local producers in the remote areas of rural Bangladesh who do not have financial capacity to participate in international trade fair to display their products to the buyersfrom abroad.
On the other hand, the overseas participants get opportunity to display their products to the consumers of Bangladesh where domestic market of consumer goods is expanding. The foreign participants display their state-of-the-art technology to the local producers and exporters. Besides, the participantswill also be able to identify business contacts with prospect of entering into subsequent business negotiations.
Export Promotion Bureau undertook the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center Project in Sector 04 of Purbachal New Town, at present it has been named Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center.
Prime Minister inaugurated the Exhibition Center on Virtual Platform in October, 2021.The distance of the center from Kuril-300 feet inter section is about 14 kilometers.
Initially 20 acres of land was allotted for the project by RAJUK, but subsequently, more 6.10 acres land was allotted later on considering the demand of accomplishment of the project.
The constructed all infrastructures by China have been handed over to Bangladesh by ceremonial function on last 07-02-2021.
EPB has also plan to add more infrastructures and facilities in the exhibition center as per future necessities of international trade. For establishing these arrangements, necessary steps are under process.
Now the exhibition center is now holding functions like Dhaka International Trade Fair, Commodity based trade fairs, sourcing trades fairs etc.
