Groups of people are gathering in the Malipukur area of Malipukur upazila to see a monkey jumping from rooftops to trees in Atrai, Naogaon. People saw the monkey at Malipukur village on the Atrai-Singra road last Sunday afternoon.

It is believed that monkey left its group at some point and moved here. As of the writing of this report, the monkey has moved to other nearby villages. The monkey has already been weakened as no one concerned has taken rescue measures so far.

Babu Mistry of Malipukur village said, “The monkey came into our area in a banana-carrying pickup. Later, he climbed on the roof of a house and started running, so the locals gathered in a crowd and gave it food.

The monkey is physically weak as he runs from house to house for fear of people and hasn’t been eating.” The locals say that this animal should be rescued adminis

tratively and handed over to the concerned department. Atrai Upazila Animal Resources Officer Rubait Reza said, “We have received this news through various means. If the local forest department wants to take him to safe custody, we can capture the monkey and hand him over to any zoo or wildlife conservation department.”
