The monkey, who appeared thrice before a Chattogram hospital for its own treatment, died on Friday noon while undergoing treatment.

Dipannita Bhattacharya, Wildlife Management and Biodiversity Conservation Officer of Chattogram Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department confirmed the death of the monkey.

The monkey was rescued from Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex in Chattogram and brought to CVASU on Monday.  After that, the monkey was treated for five consecutive days at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) and District Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department.

Stopped moving from Thursday.  It even sleeps quietly in the cage.  He was also not responding to the staff in charge of his care.

Later around 3.30 pm the monkey was taken to Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).  But due to the lack of a doctor, there was some delay in treating the monkey.

There, the monkey was given two consecutive doses of saline.  His physical condition was monitored by specialist doctors in CVASU.  After the treatment, the monkey was brought back to the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department at Sholashahar in the city after 7 pm.

Dipannita Bhattacharya said that saline was applied to the monkey's body at night.  We try to give fluids as per doctor's advice.  But he did not take any food.  No response since morning.  Later at 12 noon we confirmed his death.

An old male monkey came down to the locality from the Sitakunda Hills of Chattogram.  After that, it started going around different areas including upazila health complex, upazila Parishad, municipality, market.  The locals were regularly feeding the monkey.  The monkey used to sit in front of the health complex every morning at 9 am.  In the afternoon, he used to walk in the forest around the hospital.

There the monkey is kept in a wooden cage.  Three workers were looking after it.  Two days later the monkey was treated at CVASU.  The monkey's condition deteriorated on Thursday afternoon.

The monkey died and was buried in the custody of the Department of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation on Friday afternoon.
