The Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in bordering Moheshpur upazila arrested another gold smuggler Rasel, 25, with five gold bars on Monday evening. He was identified as the son of late Rubel Hossain of Kanaidanga village in the upazila. The BGB men had arrested him from Barobari village in Moheshpur.
The BGB men earlier on Sunday morning ahd arrested another gold smuggler Rabiul Islam when he was carrying six gold bars on a Chuadanga bound passenger bus of Hazi Paribahan when the BGB men had challenged him at Kahlishpur Bazer of Moheshpur.
BGB 58 battalion additional director Taslim Mohamamd Tareq said acting on a tip off, a contingent of BGB personnel arrested him with the gold bars worth Taka 42 lakh when he was carrying the gold bars on an auto-rickshaw.
Arrested Rasel in his confessional statement to the BGB men said some Ataul Haque had sent him to receive the gold bars at Jashore. He received bars from a man at Laldighirpar area in Jashore town in a packet accordingly. He had transacted the gold bars for 12 times in last 20 days against an amount of Taka 16 thousand a month.
