Mohammedan sink Brothers

Mohammedan Sporting Club  made it one-sided match when they secured five wickets victory against Brothers Union (BU) in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.  

Mohammedan returned to winning run after being defeated by Shinepukur Cricket Club by six wickets in their prevuious match at the same venue on April 16. 

On the day, Mohammedan won the toss and sent Brothers to bat first. The Gopibagh outfit were bundled out for 135 runs by 34.3 overs. 

Brothers saw big blow after losing first three wickets for only six runs. 

Abdul Mazid, Rahmat Ali and Imtiaz Hossain, the top order batters failed to deal with the Mohammedan’s bowling attacks.

Left arm medium pacer Abu Haider Rony initiated the Brothers damage when bowled Abdul Mazid. The right hand batter could not open his account. Slow left arm orthodox Nasum Ahmed who struck in his early spell, claimed two wickets in two overs. The spinner made the main damage of Brothers with claimed five wickets for 22 runs. Later he was judged man of the match. National team allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged three wickets after conceding 28 runs in 7.3 overs. 

Right hand batter Mahmudul Hasan and left hand batter Rahatul Ferdous were top scorers for Brothers Union with 45 runs each. Nasum Ahmed bowled both the batters.    

Chasing to a modest target of 136 runs, Mohammedan scored 140 in 23.2 overs losing  five wickets.  

Skipper Imrul Kayes hammered unbeaten 71-ball 92 runs when he plundered 12 fours and three sixes, while middle order batter Rubel Mia scored 14 runs as Mohammedan reached to the target in just 23.2 overs. Imrul Kayes and Rony Talukder added 66 runs off 57 balls in the opening stand. Rony scored 10 runs off 19 balls with two fours. 

Meanwhile, Partex Sporting Club registered their second victory in the league after defeating Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club by three wickets at BKSP Ground – 3. 

After winning the toss, Rupganj batted first and scored 259 for eight in stipulated 50 overs. Wicket keeper cum batter Jasim Uddin was the top scorer for Rupganj with 81 runs off 111 balls with hitting six boundaries and two sixes. 

All-rounder Muktar Ali of Partex took three wickets at the cost of 51 runs.  Partex reached the target 262 for seven from 48.5 overs. Middlle order batter Tanvir Hayder was unbeaten with 72 off 80 balls, he hit eight boundaries and one six.  

Slow left arm orthodox Abu Hasim claimed four wickets for 43 runs in 10 overs.
