Chattogram district administration conducted an operation in Mazhirghat salt mill area on Tuesday (June 27) to control the processing of sacrificial animal hides and edible salt during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Executive Magistrate Md Tauhidul Islam and Executive Magistrate Hussain Muhammad led the operation.

Nizam Uddin, DGM of BCICChattogram Region, a government agency involved in salt production, stock control and marketing monitoring, was present in the expedition.

After visiting 37 salt mills located at Mazhirghat, it was observed by the mobile court that there is sufficient stock of salt in the market.  Most of the mill owners said that more quantity of crude salt needs to be transported from the field level in Cox's Bazar.  It should be noted that in 2023, a record amount of 22 lakh 33 thousand metric tons of salt has been produced in Bangladesh, which is close to the demand of the entire country.  Still, the price of salt at the mill gate of salt mills in Mazhirghat's salt mill area is Tk 100-150 per bag (50 kg bag) higher than last year 2022.

The Executive Magistrate present at the mobile court through the DGM Nizam Uddin of BSIC Chattogram region who was present in the operation ordered to take measures to regularly transport the 6.5 lakh metric tons of crude salt still lying in this season at the field level in Cox's Bazar.

About 15 salt mills including Kabir Salt Mill, M/s Malek Sons, Madina Salt were visited in the expedition.
