Mixed reaction were expressed by the former national players and the high ups of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) with the ad-hoc committee was declared by the National Sports Council (NSC).
NSC, who dissolved the committee of most of the Sports Federations, announced ad-hoc committees for nine sports federations – bridge, tennis, squash, kabaddi, athletics, billiard and snooker, basketball, chess and hockey – to mixed reactions from former and current players and organisers.
However, with the ad-hoc committee of the BHF two prominent figure and the stars of all time of Bangladesh hockey, Sajed A A Adel and Rafiqul Islam Kamal put across their views fully with reverse sentiment.
Sajed A A Adel former national star and the general secretary of the BHF fully rejecting the ad-hoc committee said that it’s not at all acceptable when another legendary player Rafiqul Islam Kamal said that this committee is capable to run the federation successfully.
Sajed AA Adel, who thinks the members of the newly formed ad-hoc committee are good people but as organiser they are not fit.
‘‘In the 19 members committee, 99 percent among them have no connection with the hockey. I like to say, those, who were chosen for eh committee are good people but not good organisers.’’
On the other hand, Kamal when talking to the Bangladesh Post on Saturday said, ‘‘Out of 19 members of the ad-hoc committee 10 of them are known to me, like one of the all time star Hossain Imam Shanta, Mohamme Kawsar Ali, one of vice-presidents Shaheen Mahmud, Navid Bhai, Tapan Bhai, Dolon Bhai, Titu Bhai, Ishtiaq Hossain Sadeque and some others, they are capable to run the federation smoothly.’’
‘‘Actually, we, who are involved, all know about the present condition of the country’s hockey. I also hope that the members of the new committee will also find put the problems of the country’s hockey.’’
‘‘Hopefully, they will work to bring out the hockey from the stable condition and will try of to keep the hockey on the field. I expect they will be able to run the federation smoothly but I think there are a lot of challenges ahead of them such as holding the domestic competitions regularly and managing the funds," said one of the stakehoklers and former national forward Kamal, who is involved with Usha KC is optimistic about the new committee.
‘‘To bring financial ability is a big challenge, they will have to manage fund to run the activities. The domestic leagues, first division, second division and premierl league, including the international affaias will also be huge challenge for the committee. But as most of them are involved with hockey, they would able to face all challenges.’’
The veteran organiser, Shanta is not share with the Kamal’s opinion, as he said, ‘‘There is no representative from all clubs, even not any representatives from Mohamemdan Sporting Club, there are only Abahani and Meriners club’s representatives are in the committee.’’
So, Shanta is very disappointed by the appointments and not happy with the ad-hoc committee of hockey federation.
