In a casting coup that has thrilled fans across India, Bollywood veteran Mithun Chakraborty is set to share the screen with Superstar Rajinikanth in the much-anticipated sequel Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.

Reports confirm that Mithun will not just appear in a cameo but will play a substantial role crucial to the narrative. The actor is expected to join the sets in Chennai later this week, adding fresh star power to the high-octane action franchise.

This collaboration marks a new chapter in the relationship between the two cinema icons. Rajinikanth previously appeared in Mithun’s Hindi film Bhrashtachar (1989) and Bengali film Bhagya Devta (1997). This time, however, audiences will see them together in an extended and impactful partnership on screen — a moment cinephiles have long awaited.

Jailer 2 is currently being filmed across Chennai and other Indian locations, promising the stylish storytelling and explosive action that made its predecessor a global hit.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth continues his dream run at the box office with Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film opened with a staggering ₹65 crore on Day 1, followed by ₹54.75 crore and ₹39.5 crore over the weekend. Despite a Monday dip to ₹12.15 crore, the overall collection has already crossed ₹206 crore, cementing its blockbuster status.

Critics, however, remain divided. Some reviews point out narrative loopholes, while others highlight its entertainment value. ETimes noted, “Though this film may not reach the heights of Kaithi or Vikram, it delivers a thoroughly entertaining experience that keeps audiences engaged.” Anirudh Ravichander’s music, especially the rousing background score, has drawn widespread praise for elevating action sequences.

With Mithun’s entry into Jailer 2, expectations have skyrocketed, setting the stage for one of the biggest cinematic collaborations in recent times.
