Police on Sunday recovered the body of a readymade garment (RMG) worker from a lake in Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital, 17 days after he went missing

Two people were arrested in the connection with the incident.

The deceased was identified as Rabbi Hossain, 21, son of Noor Hossain, from Ganeshpur village of Bhola’s Lalmohon upazila while the detainees were Shahjahan, and his son Rassel. Md Ali Akber, inspector (Investigation) of Detective Branch (DB North) of Dhaka zila police, confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post.

He said two people namely Rassel and Mamun abducted Rabbi on Nov 26 and demanded Tk 3 lakh as ransom to the victim’s father.  Later, family reported to Savar Model Police Station. Later police opened investigation and recovered the body based on detainees’ statement after detained them from Mymensingh district.

According to police, the kidnappers gave the victim six sleeping pills after taking to a house in Hemayetpur area. When he was awake he started screaming. At a stage, the perpetrators strangled him with a scarf and killed him. Later they packed the body and dumped it into a lake at Hazratpur area of Keraniganj.

Victim’s father Noor Hossain alleged that police recorded the case after three days after he reported the incident of abduction. His son lost his life due to police negligence, he added.

The allegation came as investigating officer of the case Sub-Inspector Sultan Mahmud fell sick during the investigation since he did not have over it to other officials. “I was sick but there was no negligence in investigation,” Sultan said.

Superintendent (SP) of Dhaka Zila Police Maruf Hossain Sarder told the Bangladesh Post action would be taken if any negligence found in investigation.
