In a touching tribute to the late broadcast journalism pioneer and media expert Mishuk Munier, his family has donated a collection of his personal belongings to the Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA). The ceremony took place on Monday, marking the 12th anniversary of Munier's tragic passing alongside filmmaker Tareque Masud in a road accident.
Munier's wife, Monjuly Munier, entrusted the archive with a cherished collection that included his camera, lenses, flashguns, accessories, personal documents, cameras, watches, and even negatives. These items offer a glimpse into the life and work of a man who played a pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh's media landscape.
BFA Director Farhana Rahman received the donation, recognizing the immense value of preserving Munier's legacy. Deputy Director Muhammad Arif Sadek, Film Officer Md Fakhrul Alam Sohag, and Film Investigator Abul Kausar Al Amin also attended the ceremony, underscoring the archive's commitment to safeguarding Bangladesh's cinematic heritage.
Munier, a graduate of Dhaka University and renowned photographer, cinematographer, and journalism teacher, is best remembered for his creative partnership with Masud. As Masud's cinematographer, Munier's lens captured the essence of iconic documentaries, alternative feature films, telefilms, dramas, animations, and even TV news programs.
Among their masterpieces, "Dhaka Tokai" garnered international acclaim at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in 1986, while Munier's cinematography in "Muktir Katha" won the best Narrative Documentary at the Tri-Continental Film Festival in 2002. His contributions extended beyond Bangladesh, with his work as sound person and second cinematographer on "Return to Kandahar" earning him a Gemini Award in 2003.
This donation to the BFA ensures that Munier's memory will live on, his story woven into the fabric of Bangladesh's film history. As future generations explore his personal artifacts, they will gain a deeper understanding of the artistic genius and dedication that characterized this influential figure in Bangladesh's media world.
