Unidentified miscreants killed a Jatiya Party leader and subsequently dumped the body from a car in front of the emergency department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital on Saturday night.
Inspector Utpal Barua, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed it.
The victim was identified as Salam Bahadur, 52, the finance secretary of Jatiya Party's (Monju faction) central committee.
Police recovered the body around midnight and found wounds on both his legs.
His brother Abdul Karim Khalifa filed a murder case against unidentified people with the police station.
The body was dumped in front of the emergency department around 11:30pm, said the case statement.
The body was left in front of the emergency department of the hospital. There were wounds on the legs. His family members said Salam Bahadur left his Dhanmondi house around 1:00pm on Saturday. Police said the unidentified miscreants dumped the body from a private car, and then fled the scene with the car.
The vehicle has already been identified through CCTV camera footage.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Tejgaon Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner Rubaiyet Zaman said they did not yet have much to share about the investigation.
Salam's body was sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical Collegemorgue for autopsy.
According to family sources, he hailed from Pirojpur district and lived with his family at Dhanmondi road 27.He was a contractor, his family members said.
