Three names came up at the BCB board meeting to select a new captain for the Bangladesh Test team. Among them, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been elected as Test captain for the third time. Wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das has been appointed as the co-captain. Another name on the list is believed to be Mehidy Hasan Miraz. However, when asked about not getting the captaincy, the cricketer replied that Shakib is the most suitable to lead at the moment.

After a meeting at the BCB office in Mirpur on Thursday, Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon announced Shakib's name as the captain. Liton, who is at the peak of his form with the bat, has been selected as the co-captain of the red ball cricket team. Surprisingly, the BCB chief did not confirm the duration of their tenure.

Miraz won the Cricketer of the Year 2021 award at the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) Awards on Friday. The off-spinning all-rounder then told the media that when Shakib is on the list, there is no possibility of anyone else being the captain.

“Shakib Bhai has been leading Bangladesh for a long time. Shakib Bhai is an experienced player. At present, according to the condition of our team, I think Shakib Bhai is the best. Other senior players should also take responsibility. '

Miraz did not play in Bangladesh's last Test series against Sri Lanka at home due to a finger injury. However, he has already recovered and is ready for the upcoming tour of the West Indies. He is not thinking about captaincy at the moment, 'We are playing and learning by watching the seniors. We will learn by watching them, our experience will be better. There is a lot of time. Only thing in my mind is how to perform, how to play well for the country and move forward.

Miraz is reluctant to give much importance to the issue of getting leadership or not. On the contrary, he is focused on making the Bangladesh team successful by performing as a player, 'I always try to perform on my own. What you said never entered my head. Because, I always think about my performance and how the team plays to get results.
