A traditional boat race was held in Madaripur on Friday afternoon to mark the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The colourful competition was organised by Bamshgari Union Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Sumon at Khaserhat on the Arial Khan River in Bamshgari Union of Kalkini upazila.
Advocate Zainul Abedin MP, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs and a senior BNP leader, attended the event as the chief guest.
Anisur Rahman Khokon Talukdar Khokon, MP for Madaripur-3, formally inaugurated the boat race.
A total of 13 decorated boats took part in the competition. After a close contest, Miraj Howlader’s boat from Shikar Mangal Union secured first place and won the championship trophy.
At the end of the competition, the chief guest and other distinguished guests handed over prizes to the winners.
Kalkini Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahirul Alam, upazila BNP General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Munshi, former upazila Chhatra Dal president Sikdar Md Mamun, and local BNP and affiliated organisation leaders and activists were also present. #EK
