Ministry going to recommend incentives for Ctg port workers

Port authorities are sending recommendations to the Ministry of Shipping to encourage the officials and employees to keep the country's major seaports in operation despite the global corona pandemic. 

‘The matter has been passed in the board meeting of the port’ said Md. Nayebul Islam Fatik, Port CBA acting general secretary.

He said, it was recommended to provide incentives of 2 basic equivalents per month during the general holiday for corona.

Earlier, an eight-member committee was formed to report on financial incentives for risky work of port officials and employees. The convener of the committee is Port Director (Administration) Mominur Rashid.

Member Deputy Conservator Capt. Faridul Alam, Director (Transport) Enamul Karim, Chief Finance and Accounting Officer Md. Habibur Rahman, Chief Audit Officer Md. Rafiqul Alam, Secretary Md. Omar Faruq, CBA President Md. Abul Mansur Ahmed and Acting General Secretary Md. Nayebul Islam Fatik were present.

Port Member (Administration and Planning) Md. Zafar Alam formed a committee on April 5 and asked the committee to submit the report within 7 working days.

Port Secretary Md. Omar Faruq said, a recommendation is going to the ministry for incentives due to corona for port workers. The matter will be finalized by the ministry.

According to sources, several workers of the port have already died due to corona attack. Many corona patients have been identified. Authorities have set up a booth at the Port CBA building to collect samples of the corona test.

The Port Republic Club has been made a quarantine center. The port has taken initiatives to launch corona units on two floors of the hospital. There will be set up ICU, HDU facilities.

Port officials received a one-time incentive of Tk 20,000 and Tk 35,000 for the port's 130th founding anniversary and for the success of good growth in container handling.

Meanwhile, the port authorities handed over Tk 29,42,204 to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund as one day's salary of about 6,000 port workers from  the salary of April  to take preventive measures against corona virus.

Earlier, a grant of Tk 25 crore was given from the port fund through the Ministry of Shipping.
