Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hassan Mahmud has called for a united stand against those who destroy the environment and work against nature.

He made the call while addressing a discussion on tree planting program on the occasion of World Environment Day at Bangladesh Television Chattogram Center on Saturday noon.

“People need this world to survive, but people don't need the earth to survive," he said.  The way we are destroying the environment, we are destroying our very existence. So we have to save the environment and nature for our own needs,” he said.

The minister added that 2 crore people live in Dhaka city and about 80 lakh people in Chattogram city.

If everyone thinks there will be garbage and the cleaning staff will clean it.  Then it will never be possible to keep that city clean.

Therefore, as an environmental science student and environmental activist, I call on everyone to plant three trees each.  At the same time we save the environment and nature for our own needs.

BTV Chattogram Center General Manager Nitai Kumar Bhattacharya presided over the meeting.  Chittagong Region Forest Conservator Abdul Awal Sarkar and Bangladesh Television Deputy Chief News Chattogram Anup Kumar Khastgir spoke as special guests on the occasion.

Chattogram North Forest Divisional Officer Mozammel  Haque Shah, South Forest Divisional Divisional Officer Shafiqul Islam, BTV Program Preview Committee Member Gias Uddin Khan Swapan, Chattogram North District Awami League Health Secretary Dr Md Selim, North District Krishak League General Secretary Shafiqul  Islam were present.
