The middle and lower classes of Kishoreganj are in trouble due to the increase in commodity prices. They are constantly facing financial dilemma, as the expenditure is high against the income. These two classes of people think that if this situation continues, they will die without food.
These middle and low income people said that the price of goods is increasing continuously. Income is not increasing, expenses are increasing. In such a situation, running a family has become a critical but almost impossible responsibility.
Going to Kacharibazar, Borbazar, Boubazar in the district city, it can be seen that the upper classes are taking their market to their heart's content. And the middle class and lower class buy food from the market very little. Not if you don't buy it.
It is reported that the price of rice has increased by Tk 10-15 per kg, eggs Tk 10 per piece, sugar Tk 95 per kg, lentils Tk 110 per kg, open soybean oil Tk 175 per liter, bottled soybean oil Tk 190, garlic Tk 90, goat meet 950, beef Tk 750, Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 170 per kg.
Meanwhile, gourd is being sold at Tk 50-70 per piece, tomato at Tk 100, beans at Tk 150, kachur mukhi at Tk 40, bitter gourd at Tk 60-70 per kg.
The price of every product has gone up, said a few who did not wish to be named. Behind it is a powerful cycle. A handful of traders in Barabazar of the district city are the controllers of this circle. They are at the root of raising and lowering food prices.
They also said that the officers of the Kishoreganj branch of the Directorate of Consumer Rights and the district market officer are hardly seen in the market. He also commented that the origin of this cycle is due to the weakness of the market monitoring system.
Al-Amin, Murad, Anwar, Swapan, Tauhid of Gaital area of the district city said that they are not able to support their families due to the rate at which the prices of daily commodities are increasing. Market monitoring should be increased to rein in commodity prices.
Rickshaw driver Hannan of Moishhali village of Boulai Union of Sadar Upazila said, "I run my family by driving a rickshaw. Day I bring, day I eat. The way the prices are increasing, we have to die without eating.
Islam Uddin, a rickshaw driver of Sholakia Gachbazar area, apart from Sadar Upazila, said, "Since we have to stay left-handed, we have to eat less or less." So I buy little by little and eat some kind of leftovers.
CAB president Alam Sarwar Titu said, 'Morning-evening market monitoring should be done. Strong cycles must be broken. Those who artificially create crisis and raise the prices, should be arrested. Then the market will come under control.
When asked about the market situation, Hriday Ranjan Vanik, assistant director of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, Kishoreganj District, said, "Market monitoring is our routine work. We monitor the market regularly. We will work in the field to control the price of rice from next Sunday.
When asked about the closure of the cycle, Hridoy Ranjan Banik said, if complaints are received, legal action will be taken.
