Mexico lauds Bangladesh’s economic progress

2nd Bangladesh-Mexico bilateral talks held in Dhaka

 Fernando González Saiffe, Director General for Asia-Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday “highly praised” the economic stride of Bangladesh in the last decade achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

 He also lauded the “successful” tackling of Covid pandemic by the Prime Minister and also giving shelter and humanitarian assistance to over a million forcibly displaced Rohigyas from Myanmar.

 He made those comments while leading his country in the 2nd Bangladesh-Mexico Bilateral Consultation held in the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

 The first bilateral consultation was held virtually in November 2021. The second consultation is the first ever in-person such meeting with Mexico.

 Director General (Americas Wing), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nayem Uddin Ahmed led the Bangladesh delegation consisting of high officials from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change; Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Security Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs; Armed Forces Division, National Board of Revenue, University Grants Commission, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico and the officers of the Bangladesh Mission in Mexico also participated in the meeting virtually.

 Fernando González Saiffe, and Guillermo Chavez  Conejo, Head of the Political Section, Mexican Embassy in New Delhi represented the Mexican side.

 After the bilateral consultations, González Saiffe called on the Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud Bin Momen at the Foreign Service Academy and discussed the issues of mutual priorities such as trade, economy, investment, defence, and consular services.

 The Mexican delegates also attended a lunch hosted by the Foreign Secretary in honour of the visiting delegates.

 The Foreign Secretary expressed gratitude to the Mexican delegates for visiting Bangladesh.

 He informed the delegates the socio-economic stride of Bangladesh under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the congenial investment scenario of Bangladesh.

 He expressed hope to continue to strengthen the bilateral and trade relations with Mexico.
