It is encouraging to note that the test run of metro rail in the capital will be conducted in January next year as the work of the project is progressing fast.

As reported by this daily on Sunday, making of five sets of rail coaches in Japan is expected to be completed by December this year. The coaches will be brought in the country on priority basis for conducting the test run.

In order to serve commuters with a smooth and hassle-free journey and transform Dhaka into a more sustainable city, the government and all the stakeholders are working relentlessly to complete the construction of the metro-rail within the shortest possible time.

We expect relevant authorities will continue

the momentum of their concerted

efforts to finish the construction of the projects

 within the stipulated time

Reportedly, about 80 per cent work of the highly anticipated metro-rail project has already been completed. It is envisaged that the capital city of Dhaka will enter the metro-rail era by 2022 as the construction work of metro-rail and subway continues despite the impact of coronavirus which delayed the work. However, despite the obstacles faced due to ongoing pandemic, the authorities have managed to keep the momentum intact.

When completed, the rail service will be able to carry 60,000 passengers per hour, reducing travel time from Uttara to Motijheel to at least less than an hour from the current two hours.

We hope metro rail will transform Dhaka into a more active, commuter-friendly and sustainable city reducing the capital’s serious traffic snare to a great extent.

We appreciate the enthusiasm and efforts that have been shown and executed by the authorities concerned for connecting the entire Dhaka under metro-rail network. We believe metro-rail service will play the most effective role in reducing traffic congestion as well as air-pollution in Dhaka.
