Chattogram has come alive with vibrant colors ahead of Pohela Boishakh celebrations. Marking the occasion, the district administration organized a unique alpana painting event stretching around 1.5 kilometers along city streets, creating a festive and artistic atmosphere.

The route of the artwork started from Circuit House and extended through Love Lane and Kazir Dewri to the historic DC Hill. Students and artists enthusiastically participated in the event. With contributions from the University of Chittagong, District Shilpakala Academy, and Shishu Academy, traditional Bengali motifs such as vines, flowers, birds, and folk designs were beautifully depicted.

The alpana festival was inaugurated on Sunday at 11 PM by District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia. He said, “This initiative is not just about decorating the streets; it is a symbol of adding color to the lives of future generations.”

He further said that Pohela Boishakh is a festival where people come together regardless of religion or background. “Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists all celebrate together. This event reflects that spirit of harmony.”

DC Zahid added that the initiative aims to present the pride of the country’s culture and heritage to the younger generation so they can carry it forward in the future.

Among those present at the event were Deputy Police Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bhuiyan, Additional Deputy Commissioners Md. Sharif Uddin and Md. Saiduzzaman Pathan, along with other officials.

Regarding security, police stated that a coordinated plan has been implemented across the city for Pohela Boishakh. The Crime Division, Detective Branch (DB), Counter Terrorism Unit, and City Special Branch will jointly ensure security.

It is mentioning that the District Commissioner’s daughter participated in the event. She is a talented painter and has received international recognition for her artwork.
