Meritorious students lack proper care: CCC mayor

ChattogramCity Corporation (CCC) Mayor MRezaul Karim Chowdhury said, “Although our meritorious children have acquired and certified research experience abroad, they are not able to apply it in this country due to lack of labs and laboratories.  This is not ensuring the desired service from them.

 As a result, the entire nation is being deprived of meritorious children due to lack of proper care.  Therefore, it is necessary to build state-of-the-art lab and laboratory infrastructure to create a conducive environment for the acquisition and evaluation of meritorious work. The government must take positive steps in this regard.”

 The mayor made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation led by Chattogram University (CU) Vice-Chancellor Prof DrShirin Akhtar at the mayor's office on Sunday morning.

CCC Mayor said the CCC would take necessary steps as soon as it receives the report of the team formed under the leadership of the CU vice-chancellor to verify the effectiveness of the liquid drugs or powders sprayed in the city to control mosquitoes. He hoped that the experts associated with the team would fulfill their responsibilities.  Benefits will certainly be available and their advice and recommendations will be used to ensure success in conducting mosquito eradication activities.

 Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shirin Akhtar said that all the teachers and students who have returned home from the university with research and PhD degrees abroad need to have suitable environment and infrastructure to develop their talents and utilize the acquired experience.

 People's representatives must play a leading role in fulfilling this need, she added.

 He said mosquito eradication activities are an important issue in public health security.  There will be no deviation in fulfilling the responsibility given to the team led by me to check the effectiveness of mosquito repellent or liquid antidote.

 During the meeting, a budget was given to the mayor to manage the activities of the CU team formed to determine the effectiveness of mosquito repellent drugs.
