Men flee village to avoid arrest in Habiganj

Police have filed a case and arrested seven rioters in connection to a bloody clash between two groups at Noagar village in Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj on Sunday. The area has become men less to avoid getting arrested in the case.

Sub-inspector of the Azmiriganj Police Station Mofizur Rahman filed the case accusing 40 people and several others of both groups. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Azmiriganj Police Station Md. Mosharraf Hossain Tofadar said the seven arrestees were sent to jail. Additional police have been deployed to arrest the remaining accused and to avoid re-clash, he added.

Local sources said all the men fled the area on receiving the news of the case. Now only women and children are seen in Noagar village. It was also reported that both sides were preparing for a re-clash secretly.

The dispute over domination has been going on for a long time between Awami League leader and former UP member Shahjahan Mia of Noagarh village and former president of Upazila Chhatra Dal Akhter Hossain.

 Every year there is a clash between them. The dispute has led to seven killings in a few years. On Saturday evening, the two sides clashed with local weapons as a result of a previous dispute. On receiving information, police went to the spot and fired 13 round of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
