Meherpur-Kushtia highway gets a facelift

Repairing work of Meherpur-Kushtia regional highway has begun in full swing after a long wait.

On March 29, stone-bitumen coating started in Porapara part of Gangni upazila and the long dilapidated road is going to get a new look through the renovation work. Also, a large part of road in Sadar Upazila is going to be converted into four lanes.

M/s Zahirul Limited of Meherpur is implementing three packages of work to renovate the road under the supervision of Meherpur Roads and Highways Department (RHD). The work of these three packages is going on in full swing from Meherpur College Junction to Terail College of Gangni Upazila. Garadob to Bashbaria portion was the most dilapidated road in Gangni. The renovation work has also started there.

Using the latest equipment of road construction and renovation, the road renovation work is being completed quickly.

While supervising the renovation work, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Meherpur Roads and Highways Department Shaheen Mia said that the work on the base course is going on. The work of the most dilapidated portion of the highway is being completed on a priority basis to facilitate the movement of people in the area, he said.

Meanwhile, road users have expressed their satisfaction as the road renovation work is going on fast.

About 8-km of the road from Meherpur College Junction to Alampur Bridge is being upgraded to four lanes. 

Executive Engineer of Meherpur Roads and Highways Department Khandkar Golam Mostafa said this wonderful work has been approved in the DO letter of the Minister of Public Administration. A new tender has already been issued and now the work of appointing a contractor is in process. He said that work of four lanes will start soon.

Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain expressed hope that the entire road from Meherpur to Trimohani in Kushtia would be made four lanes step by step.
