There is no end in sight to medical admission test question paper leaks culture in the government and private medical college first year enrolment process. And such criminal offence is very “unfortunate” for a nation as the question paper leaks destroy the hopes and futures of brilliant and talented students.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested nine people, including five doctors, a union parishad chairman and a director of coaching centre from capita Dhaka, Dinajpur and Nilphamari in connection with leaking question papers of the medical college admission test, according to media reports.

At least 80 active members of a racket have earned hundreds of crores of taka by illegally admitting hundreds of students to medical colleges in the last 18 years. A large number of students from all over the country will take part in this year's HSC exams.

Every year, a gang becomes active when public examinations start and leaks questions in various ways. The CID has also already identified many fraud members involved in the question paper leak of SSC, HSC, Dhaka University admission test and BCS and brought them under law.

Recently, the cyber police of the CID found a syndicate that regularly leaks questions in the admission tests of the medical colleges of the country. CID has found evidence of transaction information of crores of taka from their bank accounts, and the matter is currently under investigation for potential money laundering.

We have noticed since long, although the law enforcers detained many people in connection with the question leaks in medical admission tests and other public examinations, they could not track down the main players.

As a result, the talented youths are failing to get enrolled while a section of dishonest people are getting chance in exchange of huge amount of bribe money. When these dishonest students will complete their MBBS degree, they will also be involved in corruption, misappropriation of money and misuse of power instead of providing services to people.

The authorities concerned must take stern measures to check question paper leakage in any government medical college admission test process. Alongside taking strong security measures, the government will also have to develop some innovative systems including introduction of lottery to choose question sets and special security envelope so that the question papers are not leaked.

The examination should be transparent and corruption-free and the government must not tolerate those trying to play with the future of youths.
