Media role vital to combat illegal wildlife trade: Speakers

S peakers at a daylong workshop on Combating Illegal Wildlife Trade organised by Bangladesh Forest Department and Wildlife Conservation Society at Parjatan Motel on Saturday have emphasised on highlighting the information about illegal wildlife trade and trafficking in the media so that the concerned authorities could get significant ideas on the mode and nature of such illegal activities.

Speakers at the function further mentioned that journalists have been playing a vital role in communicating and making important wildlife issues accessible to the public, motivating concerned agencies and providing important information to track patterns and trends in this illegal and environmentally destructive activity. 

They further mentioned the workshop will improve the capacity of journalists to write accurate and comprehensive news stories on illegal wildlife trade can be improved.

They further informed, many endangered wildlife like tiger, tortoise, shark and ant-eaters (Manis Crassicaudata) can be saved from being extinct through authentic reporting by the journalists.
