Similar to the previous year there are various syndicates now active in buying raw hides of sacrificial animals at a nominal price. Preparations are underway to deceive people in the name of buying rawhides through various tricks.

It is to be noted that a large part of the raw hides of previous year’s Eid-ul-Adha remained unsold in many places due to non-purchase of rawhide at the price fixed by the government. At that time, out of anger and grief, many seasonal traders and madrasa-orphanage authorities dumped a lot of rawhide on roads, drains and dumping stations.

However, a report published in this daily projected that the government has taken a number of remedial measures to ensure rawhide fair price and storage, as well as to thwart vested quarters manipulating the market during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. It is thought by officials that once these measures are in action there will be a high possibility to overcome the crisis of price manipulation or storage.

There are allegations that, a syndicate is making last-minute prices in the leather market during Eid. Seasonal small traders buy leather from the city's neighborhoods and suburban areas in the hope of earning some extra income. But then the price of leather goes down so much that the hides could no longer be sold. As a result, the rawhides get ruined from staying in storage.

The Finance Minister has pointed out that the government does not have any rawhide storage of its own and if someone wants to store and make business through rawhide in the coming Eid then the government will cooperate with all kinds of facilities.

This is very heartening news to say the least. This will ensure that seasonal rawhide businessmen will get a chance to benefit from the coming Eid and also there is the scope for export as well. It is also encouraging to understand that a committee has already been formed for taking necessary steps to collect and properly preserve rawhide during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

The people are hoping that the administration will take strict action now so that the leather market does not collapse like last year. If it is not taken care of properly, the poor, including the orphans at numerous orphanages across the country, will be deprived.
