Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday said the government has taken all possible measures to minimize the loss being incurred in the country’s fisheries and livestock sectors due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, reports BSS.

The minister made his remarks while speaking at a virtual view-exchange meeting with the field-level fisheries and livestock officers from his official residence.

He said his ministry has planned various measures to provide assistance to all grassroots farmers, farm owners and commercial livestock entrepreneurs too.

Rezaul said the government will stand by the affected farmers and farm owners by providing financial stimulus, soft loans and technical assistance to them and giving subsidy to the fisheries and livestock feed.

He instructed the fisheries and livestock officers to perform their duties with sincerity amid the country’s ongoing crisis.
The fisheries and livestock minister urged the officers to provide all-out support for the framers and farm owners in producing milk, eggs, fisheries and meat.

Besides meeting local demand for milk, eggs, fish and meat, he said, the fisheries and livestock sectors are contributing to the country’s economy by exporting those abroad.

“We’ve to be more careful so that the production of the milk, eggs, fish and meat is not hampered due to coronavirus crisis,” Rezaul said.
He said a big portion of the supply of protein and nutrition comes from the fisheries and livestock sectors and that is why production and marketing of the fisheries and livestock products must remain smooth.
