Bangladesh recorded 309 deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms in May alone, while six more children died in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Tuesday, pushing the overall death toll to 594 since mid-March, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The health authority said the latest fatalities have been classified as suspected measles-related deaths.
With the new figures, suspected measles deaths now stand at 504, while confirmed measles deaths remain at 90, the DGHS added.
During the same 24-hour period, 1,292 new suspected cases were reported, raising the total number of suspected infections to 73,362. Confirmed cases increased by 42 to reach 9,136.
Since March 15, a total of 59,106 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide. Of them, 54,812 have recovered after receiving treatment, according to official data.
