Sumiya Moslem Mim, a girl from Khulna, who bagged first place in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) admission test for academic session 2021-22 with a score of 93.5, in her instant reaction said that first of all she wants to be a good human being. Mim also said there is wrong conception about the physicians that people often call them ‘butchers’. Therefore, she wants to break this stigma and stand by the poor and helpless who are deprived of healthcare services.
Reportedly, a total of 79,337 candidates have passed the MBBS admission test for the academic year 2021-2022, that is, 55.13% of all candidates who took the test. We greet the students who are going to get enrolled at medical colleges. We hope all the medical students after completing the MBBS degree successfully will work with professionalism and give priority to providing healthcare facilities for the common man. Since ages, doctors have been put on the pedestal of being GOD. They will have to be committed to playing an important role from their respective positions to build a healthy nation with their knowledge, merit, and wisdom.

The present government is committed to reaching quality healthcare services at grassroots level across the country and it has a plan to establish medical colleges in every district. But it is unfortunate that many government doctors are still providing private services during work hours in our country. Private practice during office hours is illegal for any government physicians. But doctors here are carrying out private practice unlike many countries in the world where government physicians are not allowed to do private practice.
There are also allegations that some doctors, after office hours, carry out surgery in private hospitals till late at night. In this regard, a system should be introduced at all district hospitals where the doctors will be able to do their private practice after their office hours.
We believe our young doctors will dedicate themselves to the service of the people and play a leading role in medical services. We hope they will strive to change the stereotypical thought that “doctors are butchers” through their work.
