RAB arrested eight members of notorious Hridoy Group, including the main perpetrator Hridoy Hossain alias Gear Hridoy, on Sunday night for their alleged involved in Akash murder cases in Savar, outskirts of the capital.
Those arrested are: , Hridoy Hossain alias Gear Hridoy (24), Aryan Ahmed Joy alias Dagger Aryan (23), Nasir Uddin Nasu alias Baba Nasu (52), Abirul Haque Abir alias Kata Abir (24), Jobayer Hasan Khandakar alias Paitu Jobayer (19), Zakir Hossain Roni (30), Jahidul Islam alias Jahed (36), and Amir Hamza (21).
On Monday afternoon, Commander Khandakar Al-Moin, the director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing, disclosed this information at a press conference held at RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar.
He said acting on a tip-off, a team of the RAB-4 conducted a raid in Arapara area of Savar and arrested them on Sunday night. During the raid, huge amount of local weapons, heroin and statues made of material similar to touchstone (Koshti Pathor) were recovered from their possession.
He stated that the arrested individuals were involved in various criminal activities, including establishing dominance in the area and carrying out different criminal activities. The group has 10-15 members.
Earlier on July 9, 2023, members of the "Hridoy Group" brutally murdered a youth named Akash Mahmud, a member of the "Pinki Rabbie Group," with locally made sharp weapons following money distribution of drug business.
On July 9, 2023, members of 'Hridoy Group' hacked the rival group member Akash Mahmud to death with sharp weapon, over previous enmity.
On March 12, 2024, they killed Sohel in Savar Municipal area and another person named Amzad in Sobhan Bagh area on March 21, 2024.
These incidents of murder have created extensive unrest in the area. RAB is intensifying surveillance to bring those involved in these murder cases under the purview of the law.
During initial interrogation, the arrested individuals provided information about their involvement with those murder cases.
According to RAB spokespersons, for the past 4-5 years, the "Hridoy Group" led by Hridoy has been conducting criminal activities in the area. They were involved in extortion, robbery, drug trafficking, land grabbing, extortion, kidnapping, and terrorist activities.
