The government has taken a massive programme for Boro cultivation in the district, which is popularly known as rice surplus area, during the current Boro season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 1,84,575 hectares of land would be brought under the cultivation program with the production target of over 7.70 lakh tonnes of rice.
Of the total, 34,585 hectares of land would be brought under Hybrid Variety, 1,49,720 hectares of land under High Yielding Variety (HYV) and 270 hectares of land under local variety, DAE sources said.

Meanwhile, the farmers are now passing their busy time preparing seed beds with a view to raising seedlings.
Deputy Director of DAE F M Mubarak Ali said following the government instructions, different state-run agencies including BADC, BCIC have already started supplying improved quality seeds and fertilizers and other agricultural equipment to the door-steps of the farmers.
The field-workers and crop specialists of the DAE have started rendering their field-level services and exchanging views with the farmers to educate them about the modern method of Boro cultivation for achieving best yielding rate with minimum production cost.
Besides, different state owned commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Banks have already started disbursing Boro crops loan among the cultivators to help them to run their Boro rice cultivation network properly and timely without any financial crisis. Apart from this, the government has already taken a program to give agriculture incentives to the small and marginal farmers of the district during the season, the DD said.
Under the incentives providing program, the government will distribute 180 metric tonnes of improved quality Boro seeds and 200 metric tonnes of Mop fertilizers and 200 metric tonnes of DAP fertilizers among 60,000 small and marginal farmers of the district with a view to assist them to run their Boro cultivation network properly without any problem, the deputy director added.
