Massive passenger influx on Dhaka-Tangail highway

The pressure of both vehicles and passengers is increasing on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. On this occasion, there have been complaints of demanding high bus fare. On the other hand, in the intense heat, the people are stuck at road due to traffic congestion. However, after inspecting the highway on Wednesday afternoon, Additional IGP and Chief of Highway Police Shahabuddin Khan said that the law and order forces are taking a strict stand regarding the fraudulent gangs, robbery and high fare collection.

Talking to passengers and related parties on the ground, it is known that the pressure of vehicles and passengers has increased on the Dhaka-Tangail highway since Wednesday morning due to the announcement of government holidays and some factory holidays. Among these, the highest pressure has increased in Chandra intersection of that highway. Vehicles of 22 districts of North Bengal ply through this Chandra intersection. Due to which this, point is called the gateway of North Bengal. Overcrowding of passengers has been noticed since Wednesday morning.

Not getting sufficient number of buses, the people are running home on the pull of the pulse, taking risks in various vehicles including trucks, pickups. Passengers also complain that the transport workers are charging extra fare on this occasion. In addition, the people of the house have become hungry in intense summer. Children and the elderly are the most affected. Meanwhile, the banned auto-rickshaws are still plying the highway.

Three wheeler drivers say, we are also helpless. We can't do anything else. Because of this, I am forced to drive a three wheeler at the risk of my life. The drivers also said that they are running their vehicles on the highway by paying fines to the police and the government. On the other hand, Additional IGP and Chief of Highway Police Shahabuddin Khan visited this highway in the afternoon. DIG of Highway Police Mahfuzur Rahman, Gazipur Superintendent of Police Kazi Shafiqul Alam, Highway Gazipur Region Superintendent of Police Mustafizur Rahman along with district, DB, police station and highway policemen were present.

After inspecting the highways, Additional IGP and Chief of Highway Police said in response to questions from reporters at Chandra intersection, the importance has been increased by identifying the problems in different areas of the highways and roads. Law and order forces are in strict position on the Dhaka-Tangail highway to facilitate the Eid journey. Besides, additional law and order forces are deployed at various points on the highway.

Warning the passengers, he said that various crimes including fraudster activities, robbery can be organized in different places. Police and intelligence officers are deployed in plain clothes for such fear. He also said that there are sufficient highway, district and police stations on the issue of high fare collection. They will take necessary action if someone specifically informs them about the additional rent collection.
