The eviction operation has been conducted for the illegal structure built on the 3.00 century site of Mitachara Islamia Fazil Degree Madrasa in Mirsharai.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday (November 16) from morning to 3 pm under the leadership of Chittagong District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun. At this time, shops and buildings were evacuated from the Madrasa area.
During the operation, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (V.M) Mizanur Rahman, Officer in charge of Mirsharai Police Station Kabir Hossain, Madrasa Principal Emdad Ullah Khan were present.
Madrasa Principal Emdad Ullah Khan said that local influential Lutful Haque, Nurul Alam, Farooq Islam, Shamim Chowdhury, Kamal Uddin have been collecting rent by allocating shops and constructing buildings on the land of the Madrasah illegally. Despite repeated attempts, they could not be evicted from the madrassa. When the Chittagong District Commissioner resigned, District Commissioner Mominur Rahman issued a notice to remove the illegal structures on 11 August 5 mentioning the names of the illegal occupants. The Mirsrai Assistant Commissioner (VCM) is directed to ensure that the Deputy Commissioner takes possession of the land or building within 7 days of issuing the notice. As 3 months have passed since the notice was issued but the illegal constructions have not been vacated, the Deputy Commissioner appointed District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun. Later the District Magistrate conducted an eviction drive and recovered the property of the madrasa.
Mirsharai Assistant Commissioner (VOM) Mizanur Rahman said that despite repeated notices from the district administration, the raid was conducted because the encroachers did not remove their illegal structures.
