Corona mass immunization activities have began in 326 centers in different unions of the city corporation area and upazila. The metropolis aimed to vaccinate about 50,000 people on the 1st day.
Vaccination activities started at 9 am on Saturday and continued till 3 am. People from 25 years and above have flocked to the center from morning to vaccinate in 190 unions in 15 upazilas of Chittagong.
CCC Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the vaccination program at the ward level at Rahattarpul Majidia Alim Madrasa in East Sholashahar Ward No. 6 of the city on Saturday morning. Chittagong Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir, CCC Chief Health Officer Dr. Selim Akhter Chowdhury and others were present at the occasion.
Vaccination is being given to people in their fifties, women and the physically challenged and people in remote areas on priority basis. Moderna vaccine is being administered in the city corporation area and Sinopharm vaccine is being administered in the upazilas.
Each union has one vaccination center. Besides, the residents of the municipality area are getting the opportunity to get vaccinated at the local health complex. On the other hand, vaccination activities are being carried out in 123 booths of 41 wards in the city corporation area. 3 vaccination centers have been set up in each ward.
Dr Selim Akhter Chowdhury, chief health officer of city corporation and member secretary of CCC Corona Vaccine Provisioning Committee, said 300 people could be vaccinated at each center. 900 people will get vaccinated in 3 booths in one day. Apart from this, vaccination will also continue in 11 permanent centers.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said there are 190 unions and 13 municipalities in Chittagong upazilas. One vaccination center has been set up in each union and municipality. Each center will be able to vaccinate 600 people. One team is working in each booth for vaccination. Each team has 2 vaccinators and 3 volunteers.
