Country’s traditional hockey club Mariner Young’s participation in the upcoming Bangladesh Hockey League (BHL) is uncertain. The domestic hockey league is likely to start after 3 years. Players transfer is scheduled to be held from January 31st and will continue until February 5 but players of Mariners can’t take part in the transfer window because of their participation dilemma.

The club authority sent the letter to the hockey Federation to reschedule the transfer window time. General Secretary of the Dhaka Mariner Young’s Hasan Ullah Khan Rana said, “We request to the federation to reschedule the time of transfer window due to our financial crisis.”

Meanwhile, Federation member and the secretary of the league committee Khaja Taher Latif Munna said, “I got the letter on Tuesday. The transfer process began by this time. Players took token from the federation. The demand of the Mariners now depends on the General Secretary.”  The General Secretary of the BHF Mominul Haque Sayeed said, “The discussion of the players transfer started during August- September, 2023. The matter was discussed on the executive meeting at the federation. The players transfer decision has been taken two weeks ago at the board meeting. All clubs are ready to take part in the players transfer so, there is no logic for a club to demand the reschedule of time.”

“Mariner Young’s representative was present at the League Committee meeting during that time. The decision has been taken almost ten days ago,” the general secretary added.

Meanwhile, Hasan Ullah Khan Rana said, “We are now in financial crisis. Mariners do not have a lot of money like Abahani and Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC). We have to build many sports team like Handball, TT, Cricket and Hockey with limited revenue.”

“Club President is ill. Chairman of the hockey committee is under treatment. We are in a dilemma. To build a formidable team in this moment is a stern task for us,” said Hasan Ullah.
