Published : 08 Apr 2021 08:45 PM

The new door of the country's blue economy can be opened through open sea fish farming or Mariculture. Scientists from the Institute of Oceanography, University of Chattogram are cultivating or cultivating fish in cages in the Bay of Bengal on the Maheshkhali Channel in Cox's Bazar. The experimental project has also been successful in collaboration with the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute.

There are endless resources in the Bay of Bengal. It is to be mentioned that there are many more resources at the bottom of the ocean than there are at the surface. And works have started in Bangladesh in various ways to utilize these resources. Scientists are working to utilize the country's marine resources through research using the Blue Economy by conserving the environment and biodiversity. Scientists and students of the Institute of Oceanography of Chittagong University are working to utilize this new sector through research. They have been cultivating fish in cages in the seawater in Maheshkhali channel of Cox's Bazar for 6 months. The project has been successful in cultivating Vhetki, Bata and Datina fishes. Different species of marine animals including rare black oysters are also being cultivated there.

The locals are happy to see this project. Ahmed Gias, a local media worker, said it would benefit the local community collectively. Especially for those who work in the fisheries sector, there is a huge potential here.

At present, the contribution of marine fish to the national economy of Bangladesh is very low. But the size of the sea is much larger than the inland water of our country. Researchers believe that marine fish can be exported if the Bay of Bengal can be utilized through these studies.

Cox's Bazar Marine Fisheries and Technology Center Chief Scientific Officer Shafiqur Rahman said that research is being done there on various issues including what can be done by utilizing marine resources or using water economically.

Chittagong University Assistant Professor and head of the project research team. Mohammad Shahnewaz Chowdhury said, Dr. Mohammad Shahnewaz Chowdhury said that the importance of this research is very wide, after the conquest of the sea, what can be done in various ways by using the sea resources, how to use water economically, such a study is being done here.

Based on the different qualities of water, an integrated project of sea wheat cultivation, crab farming, marine fish farming and snail-oyster farming has been created here. So that the fishermen feel encouraged to see the project as soon as they come here. If we can harness the water resources through the spread of this technology, then it is possible to achieve the prosperity of the economy of the coastal region of this country. The people of this country and the coast will benefit a lot if this project invented through research is expanded.

The University of Chittagong and the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute are working together to develop the country's fisheries sector through technology or to develop the Sunil economy.

Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute Director General. Yahya Mahmud said the government is working to utilize the vast sea of Bangladesh. The government is now working extensively on Blue Economy and Sunil Economy. If we can spread the technologies that we have in the field, a potential field will be created in the country. The quality of life of the people of the coast will be improved.

Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shirin Akhter said, Bangladesh's blue economy will move forward by using this sea. Bangladesh is number one in the world in hilsa production. In this way, through research, it is possible to go to a place where different types of extinct fish are preserved and those that are there are kept. These studies will have a positive impact on our own food system and will help move the country forward.

A delegation including a Member of Parliament, Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University and Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute recently visited the Bay of Bengal, a short distance from the Adhinath Jetty on the Maheshkhali Channel, to see the cages in which scientists from the Institute of Oceanography of Chittagong University are cultivating fish. They expressed satisfaction over the visit to the integrated saltwater fisheries project. This project

Talking about making it acceptable to the people through research, local MP Ashek Ullah Rafique said that different people are working in different ways with the resources at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. The research of Chittagong University is working on Maheshkhali channel, if they can spread it, then it will play a huge role in the economy of the country. This research activity has opened a new horizon in the field of Blue Economy which we have inexhaustible resources in the Bay of Bengal.
