People, especially children and older persons, in Chuadanga are suffering from various diseases including Pneumonia and fever due to the weather change. Among them, the number of children is higher.

A large number of patients are getting admitted in Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, along with other health complexes, everyday. There is already a shortage of space in the children ward of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital and the outpatient department is also under pressure. Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital Wahid Mahmud Robin said 800 to 1000 child patients are getting treatment everyday for cold, fever and cough. The doctors said there is no alternative to extra care for children and the elderly, as well as increased awareness among guardians as the weather changes during this time.

When this correspondent visited Chuadanga Sadar Hospital on Tuesday morning, it was seen that there is no space left in the children ward. Even in the old building, children, who came to receive treatment in the hospital, were seen lying on floor mat on the hospital floor up to the collapsible gate of the building. Not only there are a large number of children taking treatment there, there is also a shortage of man power at the hospital. As a result, the nurses and doctors are struggling to provide treatments to the all these patients.

According to Dr Mahbubur Rahman Milon, a pediatric specialist at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, more than four hundred children got admitted at the hospital in the last nine days, in other words, from October 7 to 9:00am on October 15. Among them, fifty percent were affected by Pneumonia.

In-charge of the children ward, Rehena Parvain said, compared to the previous years, the number of child patients affected due to weather change has increased at a higher rate this year. There is no space left in the ward. On one hand, there are a large number of patients in the hospital. On the other hand, there is a shortage of manpower. It is becoming hard to keep up with the work load.

An individual, who came at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for the treatment of his son, said my son suddenly developed a high fever and cold four days ago. We provided initial treatment at home. When his condition didn't improve, I admitted him to the hospital two days ago. The doctors informed me that he is suffering from pneumonia. Another individual, who came at the hospital for the treatment of his grandson, said my grandson came down with a fever a few days ago. When his condition worsened, we admitted him to the hospital on Monday morning. There is no space left on the ward. We are staying on the flood for his treatment, as new have no other option.

Pediatric specialist of the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital Dr Mahbubur Rahman Milon said due to changes in the weather, the number of child patients at Sadar Hospital is increasing, along with an increase in the number of elderly patients. However, the number of children among the patients is higher. Moreover, 50 percent of the children are affected by pneumonia.
