A local of Raghurampur Village of Santhia Upazila in Pabna was accused of embezzling more than lakh taka from people by promising he would get them various government allowances, government housing, maternity allowance and submersible pump.
The accused was identified as Lalu alias Lalon, son of late Ahmed Ali, resident of Raghurampur Village under Santhia Upazila of Pabna.
Among his victims, there are beggars, disabled persons, maids and helpless families. Five of the victims have submitted formal complaints to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer regarding this incident.
According to the complaint, Lalu took Tk 3,000 from beggar Sareha Khatun of Raghurampur Village, saying he would get her a senior allowance card.
But he didn’t get her any card even after months have passed. He didn’t give her back the Tk 3,000 either, which she earned from begging. Sanu khatun, resident of the same village, earns her living by working as a maid in people’s house. Lalu took Tk 15,000 from her saying he would get her government housing. As he didn’t give her money back, she filed a formal complaint.
In the same way, he took Tk 12,000 from Dulal Sheikh and Tk 10,000 from Maza Khatun of Pagla Village and Tk 5,000 from Ikabbar Ali of Raghurampur Village saying he would get them government housing. Shahadat and Babu of Raghurampur village said Lalu emebezzled more than lakh taka from 15 to 20 people of the village.
The accused Lalu alias Lalon said the allegation brought against him is conspiratorial and a lie.
Khetupara Union Parishad Chairman Md. Monsur Alam said the locals have complained to him against Lalu. He sent them to Upazila Nirbahi Officer. After discussing it with the UNO, they would take action.
Santhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zahedul Islam said they will help the victim families adequately.
There is no scope of monetary transactions in receiving allowance card any more. They will take actions against the person who embezzled their money on the basis of investigation.
Sadar Mridha of Raghurampur Village said Lau took Tk 6,000 from him saying he would get them a maternity allowance card for her daughter-in-law. But neither had he got them the card nor did he give them their money back.
