Mango plucking begins in Natore

Plucking of mango, the highest juicy and delicious fruit of the summer season, has begun at different orchards in Natore district. Mango growers have started to pluck some varieties of mangoes in the first phase. 

The authorities concerned of the district administration have given specific directions to the growers about collecting mangos.

In order to ensure the availability of mature mangoes, the plucking activities of the fruit have been officially inaugurated in the district. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Natore Md Shahriaz inaugurated the event from a mango orchard at Paikpara village of Sadar upazila on Wednesday. 

Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Subrata Kumar Sarkar and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahangir Alam were present on the occasion, among others. Local mango growers were also present at the time.  

Deputy Commissioner Md. Shahriaz said “Everyone should eat more vegetables and fruits to increase the body's immunity to prevent coronavirus infection. Indigenous delicious fruit mango will play a helpful role in this regard. 

In case of corona infection, the district administration will remove any obstruction in mango collection and marketing and transportation activities of mango farmers.” 

Farmers are also urged to plant mangoes with boats for long-term preservation, prevention of rot through the stems and subsequent emergence of kushi on the trees. 

It may be mentioned that Natore will produce about 80,000 tons of mango from 5,520 hectares of land this year. Its market value is around three and a quarter crore taka. Mango collection activities will continue in the district till August 15.
