Mango harvesting to begin in Chuadanga on May 20

Chuadanga district administration has made a decision at a meeting at conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office for beginning to harvest mango in the district in the presence of mango cultivators and mango business men from May 20 this season. 

The local administration called upon the farmers not to be worried about the marketing of mangoes, saying that the government will support on transportation and marketing. 

About 19500 metric tons of mangoes is expected to produce in four upazilas of the district this year. The varieties of mangoes are gutiaam, aati, gopalbhog, himsagar, bombai, langra, amrupali, BARI-3, fazli and aswina. 

The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam Sarker. It was addressed by Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Mohammad Ali Hasan, Additional Deputy  Director Sufi Mohammad Rofiquzzaman, SadarUpazila Agriculture Officer Talha Jubayer Masrur, Alamdanga Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Damurhuda Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Jibannagar Upazila Agriculture Officer SharminAkhtar, Chuadanga District Aam Babsayi Samity president Rejaul Karim Munsi Khokon and general secretary Abul Kalam addressed  the meeting. 

According to sources 19500 metric tons of mangoes is expected to produce by cultivating 1950 hectares of land this season. Upazila wise breaks up is- 8850 metric tons by cultivating 885 hectares of land in sadar upazila, 3450 metric tons of mangoes by cultivating 345 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila, 3200 metric tons of mango by cultivating 320 hectares of land in Damurhuda  upazila and 4000 metric tons of mango by cultivating 400 hectares of land in Jibannagar upzila. 

Harvesting of Aati, Guti and Gopal Bhog mangoes will begin from May 20, Himsagar and Bombai from May 28, Langra from June 5, Amrupali and BARI-3 from June 15, Fozli from June 20 and Aswini from July 1.  Akbar Ali Malita, a mango cultivator of Dingadah in sadar upazila of the district told the Bangladesh Post that he cultivated different type of mangoes on 45 bighas of land. The harvest of mangoes will begin a month after. 

Production of mangoes will be bumper. Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam Sarker urged upon the farmers and businessmen not to use chemicals for ripening the mangoes. The administration will take action against violating of existing rules.  Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Mohammad Ali Hasan said we will monitor at grass root level farmers' orchards and businessmen shops through our staffs for avoiding using chemicals on mangoes.
