Mango harvesting begins in Chuadanga May 17

Mango harvesting will start on May 17 in Chuadanga district. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference room on Monday.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of the district Dr Kissinger Chakma.

Deputy Director of Chuadanga Agriculture Extension Department Bevas Chandra Saha, President of Chuadanga District Mango Traders Association Abdul Quddus Mahaldar, General Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Karpasdanga Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Karim Biswas, Mango traders Kajal, Ayub Ali, Lajuk, Shamsul Master and Mizanur Rahman Mizan, District Marketing Officer Shahidul Islam, Chuadanga Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Afrin Binte Aziz, Damurhuda Upazila Agriculture Officer Sharmin Akhter and Jibannagar Upazila Agriculture Officer Alamgir Hossain were present at the meeting.

According to Chuadanga Department of Agricultural Extension, a total of 2,304 hectares of land have been taken under mango cultivation in the district. Of the total, 720 hectares of land has been taken under mango cultivation in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 220 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 739 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 625 hectares in Jibannagar Upazila. 

About 29,952 metric tons of mango production target has been fixed in four Upazilas of the district. 

Anti, Guti and Bombay variety from May 17, Himsagar from May 24, Langra from May 30, Amrapailli (Bari Mango-3) from June 10, Fazli variety from June 15, Ashwina / Bari-4 varieties from July 1 will be harvested in the district. Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Dr Kissinger Chakma said that under no circumstances unripe mangoes should be harvested for commercial purposes. Besides, no chemical material can be used for ripening and preservation of mangoes. Moreover, if mangoes are ripened by illegal process or stored for ripening purposes, appropriate action will be taken as per 'Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009' and 'Safe Food Act-2013'.
