Extremists have stabbed to death a man on the banks of Chandai Bil at Atgharia of Pabna. The deceased was identified as Maqbul Hossain, 42. He is the son of Raiz Uddin Master of Jatrapur village of the upazila.

The incident took place on Saturday night. The extremists also hacked and injured a man named Alauddin alias Alam (42) who was with Maqbul Hossain at that time.

It is learned that the extremists forcibly took the two men out of the car, then stabbed them and left them with serious injuries.

Abdul Matin, a cousin of the deceased, told the media that they were returning home from Dhanuaghata Hat in Faridpur Upazila on Saturday night. When they reached Chandai Bil at night, the thugs forced them out of their vehicles and left them there after stabbing them with sharp weapons. Maqbul died on the spot.

Later, locals rescued the critically injured Alam and admitted him to Pabna General Hospital. His condition is also critical. Alam's brother Baki and son Azizul said the incident was caused by members of the banned East Bengal Communist Party (Red Flag).

Officer-in-charge (OC, Investigation) of Atgharia Police Station Abdul Malek confirmed the incident and said that the incident took place in a dispute over dominance of the area. Maqbul's body was sent to Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. The case is being prepared.
