A man named Atar Ali, 50, was beaten to death by the children of his neighbor Farooq Munshi in connection with the theft of a mobile phone in Faridpur's Nagarkanda Upazila's College Baria area.
He died at Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex around 11pm on Wednesday.
Nagarkanda Police Station OC (investigation) Md Miraj Hossain said a mobile phone of Faruk Munshi's son Russell was stolen in College Baria area of the upazila.
Mandar, the son of their neighbor Atar Ali, was blamed for the incident on Wednesday afternoon. When Atar Ali protested, they beat Atar Ali and injured him.
The locals rescued him and took him to the hospital for treatment. Later in the night, when his condition deteriorated again, he was taken to Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex and the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
