Man killed over mosque committee dispute in Gopalganj

A man was hacked to death over a dispute on the formation of a mosque management committee in Gopalganj.

The brutal murder took place at Char Boyra village in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila’s Gobra Union on Friday. 

The deceased was identified as Tuhin Mollah (35), son of Akram Mollah of Char Boyra village. According to police and eyewitness sources, Akram Mollah and Mahibullah had a quarrel over the formation of a mosque committee.

After the Jumma prayers, Tuhin Mollah, went to resolve the matter. At one point of their discussion, Mahibullah's son Raju Mollah, Mizan Mollah, Chhotan Mollah, Mahidul, Rajib and Maruf hacked Tuhin Mollah to death. 

Later, the family and locals rescued Tuhin Mollah in critical condition and took him to the emergency department of the 250-bed General Hospital in Gopalganj, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Monirul Islam confirmed the authenticity of this incident.

The body of the deceased Tuhin Mollah has been kept in the morgue of the 250-bed General Hospital in Gopalganj for autopsy. Additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.
