A mobile court arrested and sentenced a man to 3 months imprisonment for illegally extracting and selling sand at Thakurer Ghat of Tangan river in Akcha Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Sunday.
The arrestee was identified as Shambhu Barman, 48, cousin of UP Chairman Shubrata Kumar Baraman.
Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah-al-Mamun in collaboration with DB police conducted the mobile court drive, on the basis of news of illegal sand extraction at Thakurer Ghat, as there was no legal sand extracting field in the union.
During the interrogation, Sambhu Barman confessed to extracting and selling sand for a long time. So, the Executive Magistrate and UNO Abdullah-al-Mamun sentenced him to 3 months imprisonment without toil.
UNO Abdullah-al-Mamun said, he ordered to keep the seized trolley and the excavated sand in the custody of local UP chairman Subrata Kumar Barman.
