A tragic road accident occurred on Tuesday morning on the Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway, claiming the lives of a father and his daughter after a bus crashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
The deceased have been identified as Md. Ashraful Islam (50), a resident of Khalishakuri village in Debipur Union under Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, and his daughter Rabiatul (15), a ninth-grade student at Khoshbazar Madrasah.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of the Ruhia Police Station, Mohammad Saiful Islam, the incident took place in the Khoshbazar Khalishakuri Post Office area of Sadar Upazila. Eyewitnesses reported that Ashraful Islam, who was also the driver of the CNG, was taking his daughter Rabiatul and another passenger to an exam center. While they were on their way, a speeding bus rammed into their CNG from behind, causing the vehicle to overturn and instantly killing both father and daughter.
The impact of the collision also caused the bus to veer off the road. Several passengers on the bus sustained injuries and were later admitted to the hospital.
OC Saiful Islam confirmed the incident and described it as “deeply heartbreaking.” He stated that police reached the scene immediately after receiving the report. Although the bus was seized, the driver and his assistant managed to flee. A search is currently underway to apprehend them. The Boda Highway Police are handling the legal proceedings related to the accident.
