A man was detained with a foreign firearm, ammunition and hemp at Ishwardi upazila in Pabna on Tuesday morning.
He was detained during a joint drive carried out by the Ishwardi police and Department of Narcotics Control.
The detainee was identified as Shahabul Islam, 44, a resident of Baghail Kolpara area of Pakshi union of Ishwardi. A foreign firearm, three rounds of ammunition, and 20 grams of hemp were recovered from his house.
A case was filed against him under the Arms law, and Narcotics Act.
The drive was conducted by Ishwardi Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Shahadat Hossain Khan, along with Inspector (Investigation) of Ishwardi Police Station, Monirul Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun, Inspector of Narcotics Control Department of Ishwardi office, and other policemen.
According to police, they acted on a tip-off that Shahabul Islam was in possession of drugs at his home in the Bagahil Kolpara area. During the drive, 20 grams of hemp were recovered from under his pillow, while the firearm and three rounds of ammunition were found under the mattress.
Inspector Monirul Islam of the Ishwardi police station confirmed that a case has been filed against Shahabul under the Arms and Narcotics Control Acts. Following his arrest, he was sent to the district jail of Pabna through the court in the afternoon.
